Smarty Pig is by far my favorite online savings bank. Don’t get me wrong. I love the local credit union I am a part of, and I also like other tools, but there’s something about Smarty Pig that I can’t get over.

Maybe it’s their excellent website or that they pay better interest than everywhere else. Regardless–if I have a goal I am saving toward, the first step I take is to open a “piggy bank” with them. I only have one right now, and that is for my vacation fund.

The cool thing about Smarty Pig is you can set a goal amount and goal date for a specific savings goal you have and then watch the little piggy fill up as you add money to it. Maybe I’m a geek, but it’s pretty satisfying for me to see this.

You’re not limited to only one goal, and it’s very easy to set up a reoccurring deposit if you would like. It’s perfect for saving for certain things because you put the money in there and basically forget about it. It’s not easy to access since if you need any money in that goal, you have to close the goal entirely and have all the money transferred back to your checking account, which could take up to 2 or 3 days, so it adds incentive to just leave it alone until it’s time to use the funds.

I get to add money tomorrow, and I will be almost 1/2 way to my vacation goal. Pretty exciting, in my opinion!
